Irreplaceable, for many. A timeless ritual, especially for us Italians. But is it possible that we will have to say goodbye to coffee? Still too early to tell.

Irreplaceable, for many. A timeless ritual, especially for us Italians. But is it possible that we will have to say goodbye to coffee? Still too early to tell. But according to a study by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, which examined the change in global Arabica coffee growing conditions through 2050, using 14 models under three different climate scenarios (assuming, respectively, a global warming index of 1.6, 2.4 and 4 degrees Celsius), the most suitable growing areas for coffee production will decrease by more than 50 percent by 2050. For moderately suitable areas, a decrease between 31 percent and 41 percent is expected, depending on the scenario. The main problem, the study points out, is rising temperatures, which affect plant growth.
