The network of medieval cities is born
Enit and municipalities to promote the specificities of territories and tourism of traditions. Coming soon, a law for historical reenactments.
The Italian Medieval Towns Network is born, 28 municipalities divided into 10 regions, characterized by a relevant material and intangible heritage of the Middle Ages.
The project, signed with Enit, aims to develop and digitize tourism focused on the medieval authenticity of places in addition to promoting a calendar of events and historical re-enactments of absolute excellence.
"It is an important partnership," comments Renato Chiti, destination manager of Medieval Italy, " that aims to make the Middle Ages usable and popular through historical events and re-enactments, from April to October.
With Viterbo as the leader of the network, Enit will provide support in planning surveys, organizing workshops on the topic area of 'tourism of traditions' and communication.
"We want to promote the specificities, the uniqueness of the individual territories," comments Sandro Pappalardo, Enit councilor, " and expand the protocol to other villages, because the latest data show a strong interest in inland territories and the historical re-enactments they offer.
"The Middle Ages is an attractive element," explains Daniele Sabatini, councilor of the Lazio region, " even for tourists coming from abroad. The agreement with Enit and the birth of the network will bring more resources to be able to make the most of historical reenactments."
"Soon we will have a law on re-enactments ," comments Eleonora Pace, councilor of the Umbria region, " to have a regulatory framework and a national reference model. With this network we are teaming up, and with the law we will make a quantum leap in promotion."
The medieval towns that are part of the network are Pistoia, Prato, Fucecchio, Calenzano, Volterra, Incisa Scapaccino, Ariano Irpino, Fermo, Monteriggioni, Serravalle Pistoiese, San Gimignano, Sutri, Civita di Bagnoregio, Cairo Montenotte, Anagni, Boville Ernica, Stroncone, Vitorchiano, Tarquinia, Mandas, San Gemini, Viterbo, Narni, Bevagna, Perugia, Santa Fiora, Scurcola Marsicana and Pandino. As lead partner, the municipality of Viterbo presented the 6th edition of the Festival of Medieval Places on March 22 at Palazzo dei Priori.
