A total of 9 million, 370,000 tourists visited Tunisia in 2023, up 45.5 percent from 2022 and down slightly from the pre covid base year (2019), according to data provided by the Tunisian Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts.
The number of tourists who visited Tunisia between Jan. 1 and April 2024 was nearly 2.125 million, compared to 1.939 million in the same period in 2023, an increase of 9.6 percent.
The Tunisian government expects a recovery of the Tourism sector in 2024 by striving to maintain the good results achieved in 2023, said the Minister of Tourism during his visit to Monastir last April 27. The focus, he added, will be on improving the quality of services, infrastructure, hospitality, tourist transportation, environment, accommodation facilities and archaeological sites. In this regard, he mentioned the project to revise the classification of hotels, currently in its final stage, which will align the sector with new standards, including respect for the environment and consideration of people with special needs.
